February 27, 1945 – Submarine Blenny (SS-324), attacking Japanese convoy off French Indochina, sinks merchant tanker Amato Maru off Cape Padaran,

22 February 1945: At 1800, Amato Maru departs Singapore for Moji in convoy HI-96
27 February 1945: 15 km N of Camranh Bay, Indochina. At 0135, LtCdr (later Cdr) William H. Hazzard’s (USNA ‘35) USS Blenny (SS-324) torpedoes and sinks tanker Amato Maru at 11-57N, 109-18E. 73 seamen and 76 passengers are KIA.
