December 26, 1950 – Lt. Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway takes command of Eighth Army. He has served under MacArthur before, as an instructor at West Point when MacArthur was the superintendent. At the change of command ceremony, he asks MacArthur, “If I find the situation to my liking, would you have any objection to my attacking?” MacArthur replied, “The Eighth Army is yours, Matt. Do what you think best.”
