November 26, 1864 – in Sandersville, Georgia – On November 25, Maj. Gen. Joseph Wheeler and his Confederate cavalry attacked Maj. Gen. Henry W. Slocum’s advance guard. The Federals were driven back to the main Union force. On November 26, the fighting continued. Col. Ezra A. Carman’s Union brigade assaulted the Confederate line, commanded by Maj. Alfred L. Hartridge. The Federals collapsed the Confederate line and pushed them back. With the 2 days of fighting over, the Union force was able to finally occupy Sandersville. This was part of Sherman’s Savannah Campaign
