November 22, 1861 – in Fort Pickens, Florida – On November 22, Confederate forces at Fort McRee, Fort Barrancas, and the Pensacola Navy Yard open fire and attack the Union batteries at Fort Pickens. Later on, the Union forces are aided by the 2 Union ships, USS Niagra and USS Richmond. Even though both sides sustain damage, the battle proved to be inconclusive.
