October 13, 1863 – in Arrow Rock, Missouri – On October 13, Brig. Gen. Egbert B. Brown and a sizable Union cavalry force was following Col. Jo Shelby and his Confederate cavaly force. The two sides engaged each other in a brief skirmish at Arrow Rock. Arrow Rock was located just northwest of Boonville.The Federals were almost able to surround the Shelby’s command. Shelby was able to break free and escape with his force. They quickly moved southward to the safety of the Arkansas River.
